Commander's July Comments

LTC Champange Friends and Family of the Washington Artillery,

As the new commander, I am pleased to be able to provide comments about the active battalion. I would like to thank all those that attended the Change of Command ceremony on Saturday June 4th. It was a very special day for me and my family and it is an honor to join the ranks of our historical command. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to LTC Champagne for his many years of service to the Washington Artillery.

To give an update on battalion activities, June drill marked the change of command ceremony on Saturday. On Sunday, June 5th, 40 soldiers were given the opportunity to partner with Kaboom, the City of New Orleans, and The Walk Disney Company to construct a new playground at Palmer Park. The park is located on Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans. This is volunteer experience provided a unique opportunity for the battalion and the Louisiana National Guard to gain a positive public image. It is important that we give back to the community that gives us so much support, not just in times of crisis. Going forward, the battalion will seek out further opportunities to volunteer in the community; these events will not only be open to the active battalion, but also families and WAVA members.

I would like to thank the battalion’s families and WAVA for their continued support, and look forward to working together in the future.
